Celebrating our volunteers in April

Announcements
Throughout the month of March we celebrated Read Aloud Month at 9 HISD schools with 774 1st and 2nd grade students. Read Aloud Month is a national campaign focused on spending just 15 minutes a day reading to or with a child, helping to bridge a “30 Million Word Gap” between low and higher-income children by the time they reach age 4. To help close this gap, 48 of our volunteers read aloud to 37 classrooms for 30 minutes/week for a total of 4,200 minutes!
As we celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Month in April, we would also like to thank 200+ dedicated volunteers who are helping to ensure our kids succeed. They have already contributed over 900 service hours this school year!

*Special thanks to the following Read Aloud Month sponsors for providing funding to purchase the students’ books: Ascension Episcopal Church, Scott Bayley, Tom Fitzpatrick, Paula McHam, and SCF Partners.
