Programs are in full swing and we are excited!! Thanks to your support, we are serving 332 students in our Reading Intervention program in 9 HISD elementary schools throughout Houston, including Ashford, Bruce, MacGregor, Mark White, Piney Point, Red, Ross, Shadowbriar and Walnut Bend. The students and interventionists have settled in and are on their way to many reading success stories.
Our Steps 2 Success after-school program has kicked off at Belmont Place Apartments. We are excited to announce that a group of students from Westside High School will be volunteering this year with our students!
We are serving six schools this year through our Lunch Bunch mentoring program and are blessed with many new and returning volunteers who are enabling us to serve two additional schools this year!
Our Parent Partnership programs kicked off October 17th with our Family Literacy Night at Belmont Place Apartments, made possible by HEB Tournament of Champions and Charity Guild of Catholic Women.Their generosity enabled us to provide families with books and tools to encourage reading as a way of life.
Parent Workshops will take place this fall at all nine of the schools we serve to give parents the tools and skills needed for helping their children develop literacy skills at home.
In the spring of 2018, we are slated to launch our Ready, Set, Read! bus which will travel to Houston Housing Authority and other low-income apartment communities.
